The Crickets series is a collaboration between the artist and field crickets. The insects do much of the work, leaving the task of establishing spatial boundaries and declaring the work complete. The primary instinct driving the process makes each mark spontaneous and unpredictable, revealing the uniqueness of an aesthetic that becomes part of nature itself. Started with wafer paper, the research soon included other edible materials like pure gold, exploring the idea of adding value through subtraction. A work that invites reflection on human primacy in art and encourages moving beyond prejudice and aversion, even between different species.
